Happy New Year!

I hope your holidays were wonderful! We Crandalls had a great Christmas traveling to see family. Avi showed off his piano skills to all the relatives with Jingle Bells and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas on the piano; Evan sang as loud and as often as possible; Levi mostly clapped. I hope you got to participate in something musical, as well! If you’ve never experienced a family sing/play-a-long, you’re missing out. While it may not win a GRAMMY, it’s fun!
Looking forward to this new year, I’m very excited for what is in store for KCRB School of Music.   We continue to grow and new students sign up each month. We love getting to be part of your musical journey. Thank you for helping make us a success!

For part of my New Year’s Resolution, I’m compiling a short list of songs I want to perform at some point over the course of this year.   Here’s a sample:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow – ukulele
Sunday Bloody Sunday – drumset
Blues for Gilbert– vibraphone

If you feel inspired to make a list of your own, let me know!
Sincerely,

Laura Lee Crandall
Owner, KC Rock Band & Guitar – School of Music

Practice Tip of the Month

Practice the SAME DAY as your lesson

What? Practice when I just had a lesson? Didn’t I already reach my music quota for the day?!?!

Research shows that retention rates are CRAZY HIGH if you go home and practice the same day you had your lesson (90-95%, to be exact! Wait until the next day and it’s dropped to 70%). Every day you wait, more is forgotten. Think of how much faster you will progress if you implement this tip!

It doesn’t have to be a long practice session. Take 15 minutes to look over what you talked about in lesson, and play through it again! Your brain will thank you for it!

Did you receive an instrument for Christmas?
Do you have a long standing goal of learning to play or sing? There’s no better time to start!
