I love to read, and in the last few years I’ve been gravitating towards non-fiction. Lately I’ve been reading and working through a very interesting book, The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. It’s a 12-week study to discover and cultivate a person’s creativity. I’ve loved it so far and the short exercises at the end of each chapter have been very eye-opening.

One of the main points of the book is that every person is creative; we were designed to be creative and it is part of our humanity. Some people had their creativity nurtured in life and it flourished.   Others had it squashed by people or situations, but it can always be rediscovered and developed again. The book is so encouraging–it’s like having a dear mentor coax you out of insecurities and self-destructive habits, encourage you to take care of yourself, and take your creative pursuits seriously.

I’m in week 3, so 9 more weeks and chapters to go. I encourage you to check it out and see how the creative part, the artist, in you can begin to bloom!

Happy Music Making!
